Object interaction?

OurJud
I'm losing the will to live here, and can feel all my enthusiasm being drained away.

How the heck do I interact with objects?

In this tutorial, he has a page where he can add the message to be displayed if someone sits on an armchair, but I don't have that option.

My character is in a bathroom and there's a razor on the shelf. I want him to be able to shave, so that when he types 'use razor' he gets the message, "Clean shaven now, you feel surprisingly refreshed and ready for the day, but I can't find anywhere that will allow me to type this message.

I have created the razor as an object, and set the 'look', 'take', and 'drop' responses, but where and how do I set the 'use' parameters?

see the tutorial, you can set up in the GUI~Editor so it is 'use (razor) on (your person)', I'm too lazy to read up again on the 'use' function, as it's explained in the tutorial anyways.

Steps to use an object:
1) Click on the object to highlight it.
2) Select its Features tab.
3) Check "Use/Give". A "Use/Give" tab will then appear.
4) You can now specify the behavior for the object either on its own (use razor) or in relation to other objects (use hatchet on door).

Now for your case, click the action for "Use (on its own)" and change it to "Run script". Then you can add a "print message" to have it print your message.

Ahhh! Thank you, Jay.

Thank you also, HK. I know you keep pointing me to those tutorials, but I can never find the answer I'm looking for - even when you link directly to them.

One thing to keep in mind is that the tutorials are out of date. They were written before the Features tab came into existence, for example, which has caused problems for some, when they can't find something that is now hidden behind a feature (like use/give).

I didn't know that, as it happens!

And I didn't know about that Jay, as it's not mentioned in the wiki's 'upgrade' page, and due to me not downloading quest version 550, yet. Thanks for letting me know that the individual tabs have toggles for their full options as well, I'll try to remember this for when others need to know why they can't find soemthing or when I'm trying to help them with it. Thank you Jay for the information!

err... nevermind, it is mentioned in the wiki's 'upgrades', I just never noticed or realized it's meaning, I guess.
